Mr. Rice’s law practice focuses on serving business clients and property owners. His expertise and experience are in Construction Law and Litigation, Collections and Claims, Business Law and Litigation, Unfair Competition and Business Torts, Real Estate Transactions and Litigation, Trust Litigation and Employment Law (employers and Executives), as well as Corporate Advising for small- to medium-sized, closely held businesses and their owners. Mr. Rice has been lead counsel for over 40 trials and arbitrations and over 450 trial and arbitration days.
Within the construction industry, Mr. Rice is a frequent lecturer on construction management and lien law, including 10 years of presenting an all-day seminar on Mechanics Lien law sponsored through Lorman Education. Mr. Rice has written extensively on differing site conditions, project management, and lien law, including the lien law book published by Lorman Publications, and numerous articles with Pile Buck International, Pile Drivers Contractors Association, and local Builders Exchanges. Mr. Rice’s representation includes Public Works and Private Works Contractors, Commercial and Residential Builders, Specialty Fabricators, and Design Professionals.
Mr. Rice has been a member of the Legal Advisory Committee of the California Associated General Contractors (AGC) since 2001. He is a member of its AGC subcontract forms Subcommittee updating AGC contract forms. Mr. Rice also was part of the Associated General Contractors of California’s Legal Advisory Team, assisting the State’s Law Review Commission with comments and language for the recent Lien Law Revisions enacted into law in 2012. Mr. Rice participates in annual roundtables of architects, engineers, digital fabricators and BIM software platform providers to assist the Digital Fabrication industries with new legal language for buildings constructed from 3D Models and electronic drawings.
